ssshhhh... Reading in Progress

narnia
more cat pictures

I've been joyfully immersing myself in my TBR like an alcoholic on a binge. It's just been way too long since I've done this.

And check this out...
Photobucket

I christened it "The TBR Chair". Hmmm... I wonder if my hubby would mind if I got one and put it in our bedroom.

Oh,thank God! I though you were sick again. LOL

I love the chair. How ingenious! The perfect gift for the manic reader.

well...er... actually kid #3 brought a chest cold home with a neverending cough. I got it next and now my oldest DD has it (don't know why the Y chromosones haven't got it).

Unfortunately for someone still trying to rebound from acute brochitis, it means I'm back on inhalers because I can't walk up the steps without starting to gasp. And DAMMIT, I had just started using my recumbant bike every day too!

But I actually started my reading binge before I got sick. Being sick is just a good excuse to prolong it. hee

OMG! I LOVE that chair! Where did you get that? SOOOOO awesome!

Anne, I don't actually have the chair. I found the pic somewhere out in googleland when I was searching for something else entirely. I don't have a clue if these things are actually sold anywhere, but it looks like someone with basic carpentry skills should be able to make one with no trouble.

That is the coolest chair I ever saw! No more messy piles of books on the floor!

I'd be banned the instant my husband saw the picture. He thinks I have too many books already. 904 catalogued and counting...

Damn, Jules! You ARE organized! I keep saying that one of these days I'm going to get my library catalogued somewhere/ someway. My excuse is that I'd have to manually add all my ebooks... at least as far as I know, there isn't a cataloging system that searches ebook ISBNs.

The nifty thing about LibraryThing is that you can search its existing catalogue and add from there -- and a whole lot of ebooks have already been manually added by other people. In the case of erotic romance, often people who were hooked on LibraryThing by me. :->

Jules, that is EXACTLY want I wanted to hear! And it couldn't come at a better time since my new bookshelves are FINALLY due to arrive today (actually the 2nd shipment, the 1st was lost) which means I will soon be undertaking the Herculean task of organizing ALL my books.

Now, I hope there is a way to back up libraries from them, because if I did all that work and their server overloaded and went kaboom, I would be a very unhappy camper.

You can export your catalogue in either CSV format or tab-delimited format, so you can keep a backup somewhere else. I wouldn't have bought an account myself otherwise.

One of the nifty things you can then do with that file is load it onto a Palm along with a piece of software someone put together, so you can check if you have a book in a your catalogue. This alone saved me the cost of my lifetime membership in one trip to the bookshop, in not buying copies of things I already had. :-) I must do a new backup and synch it with my Palm, as I haven't doen mine for a while.

Oh, and you can have a library of up to 200 books on a free account, so you can get a decent number in to play with to see if you like the thing before spending any money on it.

Okay, now you're making me toe up to that line where "someday" plans become a mission and an obsession. My family will not be thanking you, Jules. (But I will)

Bother. Apparently Tim has disabled the function that lets you add a book directly from the LibraryThing entry, because they were picking up a lot of bad data that way. I'd still have a play with the free version to see if you like it, because any ebooks that are available through Amazon will still be easy to pick up just by entering the ISBN.

LOL, good thing you came back and told me that, Jules. Your ears would be burning when, once I get it together and start loading, I spent hours trying to load from within LibraryThing and couldn't figure out how to do it!

As for ebook vs. print ISBN's. I just always assumed they had a seperate ISBN for the print version. So, I guess that WOULD help out a lot. Except for maybe my older ebooks, but I guess I can live with that.
